Preparation for the SALOMON 4 TRAILS 2013 and the GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN

Getting prepared for the mountain running adventure - The Running School Scuol in the Engadine (stage of the Gore-Tex® Transalpine Run 2013) is specialized in trail & mountain running and provides professional preparation clinics and –camps: the optimal running technique, running in alpine topography, the right choice of gear, training planning, nutrition & more are content of these training days to improve your performance. Of course, you will also experience alpine running at its best on the original route of the Salomon 4Trails and within the region of the Silvretta mountain massif during these exciting and adventurous mountain running days.

Hiking, culture and shopping

Samnaun has been known as a winter paradise for a long time. However, more and more guests are also discovering the thrill of what the alpine valley has to offer in summer. The hiking and biking paradise lures with its unspoilt nature, the variety of activities on offer and, last but not least, with duty free shopping.

«Nature pure» is Samnaun’s summer motto. Guests can enjoy the natural treasures of the lowest Engadin side valley, without having to disturb the habitat of plants and animals. Families, nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts and the elderly will all find unique flora and fauna that continues to exist here.

250 kilometres of hiking fun

In summer, the unspoilt nature of the valley area is tied in with a wide range of activities. One attraction – and not just for the children – is the Fairy trail illustrated by the Swiss artist Rudolf Mirer, this combines a pleasant walk with exciting fairy tale episodes displayed on large boards. In addition, whoever «just» wants to go hiking has come to the right place in Samnaun. An outstanding marked and signposted network of 250 km of hikes will lead guests into the various side valleys of Samnaun and onto the summits of the Silvretta Arena. The world exclusive double-decker cable car brings hikers to the start of countless beautiful routes. The hiking fun is rounded off with hiking weeks, guided tours, hiking lectures and the well known hiking pass.

Wellness and shopping

Samnaun is also developing itself ever more into an actual wellness holiday centre. Many of the hotels have modern wellness facilities available. Even most of the holiday flats offer saunas and steam rooms. Sporting opportunities are likewise numerous, for example, two tennis courts at the unusually high altitude of 1800 m. Boredom will not be an issue with the varied weekly program which includes, slide shows, guided botanical tours, children’s days and fishing trips as well as tours to the “Sennerei”, the local churches and to the valley museum. If the weather is not playing the game, Samnaun’s role as a shopping paradise comes into play. In a large number of shops, innumerable products from all the possible brands can be purchased – thank the duty free status of Samnaun for the unrivalled low prices.

A secret tip for mountain bikers

Mountain bikers swear by Samnaun, biking is much more fun, and is even healthy, in a high altitude climate with comfortably fresh temperatures. It is no wonder then that many trans-alpine routes pass through the Silvretta Arena Samnaun/Ischgl. In addition, life is made easy for the bikers: Bike transport on all the lifts is free and detailed route descriptions make planning easy. The routes themselves are more difficult. The passionate biker will find demanding and steep run variations that will get the pulse racing. To top it all off, in August the IRON-BIKE Ischgl – Samnaun – Ischgl race takes place.

All-Inclusive Offer

Since summer 2005, Samnaun has offered a very special arrangement for all guest, staying at least one night in the Samnaun valley. With the guestcard, which is available in every hotel or appartement, the guests can enjoy the mountain railways, Alpenquell experience baths, the summer weekly programme, parking places and the local bus for free. The offer is valid from end of June till end of October.

On the trail of wild nature

Guided tours to observe wild animals offer a unique experience for the summertime guests to Samnaun. Animals living in the wild are not, as is well known, waiting around for visitors. Only the experience of experts will ensure the opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat. Guided tours to observe the local wild life are on offer once a week. Together with a gamekeeper, guests can observe animals in their natural environment without disturbing them.

Relax in the high-altitude swimming pool complex

The perfect addition to the wellness facilities offered in many of Samnaun’s houses is the Alpenquell Erlebnisbad (Alpine spring adventure pool). Two pools, one for general use and the other for sport, a cold pool with a waterfall, a hot whirl pool, a paddling pool, a eucalyptus steam room, a solarium and a small gymnasium are all waiting in Switzerland’s highest lying swimming pool complex. As a result, the Alpenquell Erlebnisbad is the right address for guests that want to relax and for those who want to be active.

Culture that you can see and taste

Samnaun can also be enjoyed on rainy summer days, for example, a visit to the open alpine cheese factory. Here guests will get an insight into the production of the famous local mountain cheese and will learn how these tasty cheeses are made from milk. And naturally, all the results can be purchased on the spot. In contrast, the valley museum’s farmhouse in Plan is a journey back in time.
